Meet Jen

Hi, I'm Jen :-)

As you may have guessed, I am a photographer. “But to know who you are, could take a lifetime.” (If this quote sounds familiar, it’s from The Knight’s Tale, a favorite of mine!) Here's the short version - I am also a friend, a wife, a daughter, an aunt, an adventurer, an animal lover, a Guinness drinker (...and a wine drinker...and a whiskey drinker...) I love blueberries more than any other food - make me a blueberry pie and you'll never get rid of me. I am a sympathetic crier, a Taurus (and a night owl), a crafter, a backpacker, a nature-lover (from the beaches to the mountains). I can make an awesome campfire anywhere outside but not in our own fireplace. I'm a cosmopolitan hippie (I'm still not sure what this means but it's how one of my best friends describes me and I like it!), co-owner of a 1983.5 VW Westfalia Vanagon, a documentarian. Oh and there's more -

"I wear my sunglasses at night So I can
Keep track of the visions in my eyes..." — Corey Hart

I'm a 70's baby with a deep love for 80's music. My first music purchase was Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet. (Yes it was a cassette tape and yes I still have it.) Whenever I get tired on a long drive, my go-to Spotify playlists include the Footloose channel and Wham! (My husband hates it, but it's better than crashing.) And could some musician somewhere please bring back the saxophone?!!! I love including music on photo shoots (usually by way of a bluetooth speaker). Music has a way of bridging gaps and making people more comfortable, which is key to portraying people in a natural way! You can learn more about the music I play on the FAQ's page.

“Not all girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice. Some girls are made of adventure, fine beer, brains and no fear.” — Steve Maraboli

I'm pretty sure the sugar got mixed up with the salt when they made me. But there is a whole lot of adventure in my spirit and there's a very good chance that Guinness runs through my veins. Not that this is the only beer I'll drink, but it's my go-to more often than anything else. It was exciting to try out different Guinness varieties while in Ireland, but the traditional Draught is still tops in my book; it's the perfect conclusion to any adventure :) As for fear, I'll try anything once and see what happens.

"The road to my heart is paved with paw prints." —ANON

For years, it was just me and The Bosley Kitty. He needed a home and I had hole in my heart that needed to be filled. Turns out, he just made my heart a whole lot bigger so I could fit in Steve (also known as The Furry One. If you're curious I am known as the Less Furry One) and Miss Lola. On road trips, one of them is always on my lap (the animals, not Steve) and they are my daily office companions - again the animals, not Steve :) With them (Steve too), life is complete...

“The best portion of your life will be the small, nameless moments you spend smiling with someone who matters to you.” — Unknown

There is something to be said for crisscrossing the country for eight months in a VW Vanagon with you husband and two fur babies and everyone still liking each other when you finally get off the bus. There are times we miss the lifestyle but since Beatrix is still in the family, we can hit the road anytime we like!
